![]() This really is a long shot but you can try going to the control panel/administrative tools/services, find the DHCP-client and restarting it. ![]() You should enter the address along with their server port number (default: 16666) in the format ":" (for example "257.122.55.65:16666") in the text field underneath the server list and click the join button at the bottom of the multiplayer menu screen.ġ2. If you are having problems connecting to a friend, try connecting directly via their IP address. Follow the link, and find the section "manually reset TCP/IP", click on the appropriate version of Windows and it will guide you how to do it.ġ1. ![]() Try using this guide by Microsoft to reset your internet connection. But before giving up entirely, let's try these steps as a last resort.ġ0. The long shots Ok, If you've tried all the previous steps (including port-forwarding) and you're still receiving the connection error, I'm a bit stumped to be honest. If port forwarding didn't work or you don't have access to trying it, and if you're on Windows 7 and haven't gotten the latest Service Pack, try updating. It's a bit technical but you can consult our separate post on the topic for details.ĩ. If none of the previous steps have worked the issue is most probably with either your or your friends internet connection and port forwarding in either end will solve most of these issues. If you're connected to the internet through one (or more) router(s) (most people are) and have access to it's configuration (many people do) you can try setting up port forwarding to help the connection along its way. Remember that your router may also have a firewall set up, and in that case check this one as well.Ĩ. The first time you start Trailmakers Windows firewall will display a pop-up asking for permissions to let it through and if you accidentally denied permissions at this point, the windows firewall will be blocking it. If you have antivirus and/or firewall, make sure they are not blocking the connection - it's safe to add TrailMakers.exe as an exception. they never do, do they? The following all actually have a fair chance at solving the issue but they require a bit of technical know-how on your part.ħ. The technical steps Ok - so the generic steps didn't work. Make sure your computer is up to date, video card drivers, sound drivers etc Bandwidth intensive services should be closed to prevent bandwidth saturation, loss of connection quality and possibly connection loss.Ħ. It's always a pretty good idea to make sure there's enough bandwidth available on you local network before trying to play multiplayer games and this especially applies to Trailmakers because we have a lot of physics that needs to be synchronized. Make sure you don’t have anything downloading in the background i.e., streaming services (Netflix, HBO, etc.), torrent clients and the like. If it doesn't check out, try reinstalling Trailmakers entirely.ĥ. This step will check if there's anything wrong with your installed version of Trailmakers. The buttommost button says " Verify Integrity of Game Files". In Steam, right-click Trailmakers, choose properties and switch to the " Local Files" tab. Sorry, I know this is the goto catch-all answer of every tier 1 support out there, but it actually has some chance of helping as it re-allocates the network resources which may otherwise be blocking your connection.Ĥ. You'll need to shut down Trailmakers again to do this, but restarting steam resets your connection tokens and can help establishing new network connections.ģ. Stopping and restarting an application may free up resources that could otherwise be unavailable to it.Ģ. The simple generic steps It's annoying, I know, but we need to get these out of the way as possible solutions before proceeding to the technical steps.ġ.
